Hi! It’s been quite a while, has it not. Stay tuned – I’ve got movies to talk about here, both in October for the October Horror Movie Challenge (which I plan to fail), and in November for Noirvember, and a look at the films screened during Noir City Detroit 2022.

OHMC 2016 – Shin Godzilla and a Return to Contemplation

OctoberChallenge2014-Haxan

This morning, I saw this within a post on a friend’s Facebook page: “Insegnami la gloriosa lezione che qual che volta io passo sbagliare.” Translated from Italian, it says “Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I can make mistakes.” I have made a mistake in not keeping up on posting about the October Horror Movie Challenge, but today I fix that by talking a little about contemplative horror, particularly in terms of Shin Godzilla (Godzilla: Resurgence). OHMC 2016: The Warm-Up Post

OctoberChallenge2010

It’s getting to be that time of year again, the October Horror Movie Challenge. As the image above says, 31 days – 31 movies – no excuses. For those unfamiliar with the Challenge, the standard requirements are to watch 31 horror films in the month of October, with at least 16 of those films as first time views (FTVs). Some people go bigger than that, logging a hundred or more (!) films for the month, which I’ve tried and let me tell you: it was not fun. Some people just stick to the 31/16 model, which is what I tend to do these days. Continue reading OHMC 2016: The Warm-Up Post

OHMC 2014 – Week Four: The Wrap

OctoberChallenge2014-BlackSabbath
The October Horror Movie Challenge is over, and final reviews and write-ups are rolling in across the board. The last week of the Challenge was fairly light for me, particularly after revisiting the entire Saw franchise. There’s just something about those movies that kind of kills the buzz. Anyhow, here are the last few films for the 2014 October Challenge! Continue reading OHMC 2014 – Week Four: The Wrap

OHMC 2014 – The Saw-a-thon

OctoberChallenge
Here’s the thing about the October Challenge: sometimes, you end up wading through a lot of really awful films when you’re trying to get through 16 first time views. And then sometimes you’re me, who does it on purpose, with films that aren’t first time views. Hence…SAW SUNDAY. [SPOILERS AHEAD] Continue reading OHMC 2014 – The Saw-a-thon

OHMC 2014 – Week Three: The Kitchen Sink

OctoberChallenge2014-BlackSunday

The Challenge rolls along and we’re reaching the finish line with just over a week before Halloween! How have you been doing, if you’ve been playing along? Are you burning through the requirements like wildfire or taking it slow? Week three was a lot lighter than the previous two, with a weird mishmash of genres and styles, everything but the kitchen sink it seems. Read on! OHMC 2014 – Week Two: A Music Box of Horrors

OctoberChallenge2014-Haxan
Another week bites the dust in the October Horror Movie Challenge, bolstered by a trip to Chicago for the 10th annual Music Box of Horrors at the historic Music Box Theater. Several more views under the belt and I’m now a handful of films away from meeting the minimum challenge requirements. Read on! Continue reading OHMC 2014 – Week Two: A Music Box of Horrors
